FAQ
The questions that come up before a first hunt
Answered plainly. If one is missing here, write to us.
Do players need an account?
No, and there is no way to create one. A player exists for the length of a hunt and not a minute longer. That is deliberate: the fewer accounts there are out there, the less there is to lose.
Do they have to install an app?
No. The game runs in the phone browser. You can add it to the home screen if you want to, but there is nothing to download, which matters when twelve people are standing in a car park ready to go.
How much ground can it cover?
A five-hectare park works, and so does a twenty-five square kilometre territory. What really bounds a hunt is not the area, it is the number of objects and the walking time. Past a few square kilometres, plan on vehicles between zones.
How long does it take to prepare a hunt?
Count on an evening for a first trail of around twenty objects, riddles included, plus the time to go and hide them. After that you duplicate the hunt and adjust it, which is a lot quicker.
What happens when the network drops on the field?
The game carries on. The player app is built for a phone at the far end of a park. Whatever has already loaded stays available, and a capture made offline sends itself as soon as the signal comes back.
What if the camera cannot read a label?
Every label also carries a five-character code you can type in. It uses no I, O, 0 or 1, because those four stop being distinguishable on a wet sticker, or when someone shouts them across a field.
Can a player just look up where the objects are?
No. Object coordinates never leave the server. They are not in a page, not in a network response, not in the radar, which returns an intensity and not a position. An automated test walks every player-facing response looking for a leak. The one exception is the timed treasure, which exists to be visible to everyone at once.
Can I replay the same hunt with several groups?
Yes, and that is how host venues work. A new launch puts the state back flat: zones close again, scores return to zero, and the second group starts exactly where the first one did.
And if it rains and we have to call it off?
A launch cancelled in under fifteen minutes and under ten scans is not counted, once per hunt per month. Past that, the hunt really did take place, and it counts.
What do you keep about the players?
A nickname, a team, what they found, and while the hunt runs their position, which is what makes the radar work. Positions and player records are purged when the hunt is archived, test launches after thirty days. Location is never collected before it has been agreed to.
Does it work indoors, or somewhere with bad GPS?
Yes. Location feeds the radar, but it never gates a capture: scanning the code is what scores. A hunt inside a building works perfectly well. You lose the warm-and-cold, you keep the game.
Which languages does it speak?
The organiser workspace and the player app speak French, English, Spanish, Italian and German, and this site speaks the same five. The language is detected rather than chosen, and the content of your own hunt is written in whatever language you like.
